The Irish Village presents CLICHé: a nostalgic look at the music, memories and iconography of the last 30 years.
Each weeks will feature a different decade of music: the 80s, 90s and Noughties.
DJ's Zahra Soar and Mike Ross will provide the tunes at The Irish Village Tent on Thursdays & Fridays throughout July.
Artists Diya Ajit, Kris 'Dozign' Balerite, Fathima Mohiuddin and Simon Mark Hunt will be down at the venue creating a live freestyle mural on the opening night.
*** CLICHé ***
With music trends spreading across the diaspora and new genres being created seemingly every minute, it is often the case that people feel somewhat left behind - culturally-speaking - alienating those who, perhaps, have neither the time nor the inclination to keep up with trending genres. Cliché is a brand new concept created quite simply to quash the notions that music is going beyond the masses, rather it is simply going full circle where the sounds of yesteryear are as relevant today as they ever were.
Commemorating the last 30 years of culture, Cliché brings modern-classic sounds and images together in a multi-media festival of post-modern iconography.
*** THURSDAY ***
ZAHRA (Open Mic, Dubai Eye, 103.8) presents a detailed musical retrospective of all the ONE HIT WONDERS that reared there soon-to-be-forgotten heads throughout the 90s. While we try to forget the names, the songs will always stick in our minds!
*** FRIDAY ***
Do you remember KURT? NIRVANA? The baggy clothes, the rise and rise of the Seattke scene? Pixies-inspired grunge and rock that seized control of the world? Lollapalooza and Rock the Vote? If it wasn't for the super-sounds of the 90s, Bill Clinton would have gone the way of the Gores and Dukasiseses of the world. Pearl Jam, Sugar, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots and countless others that have formed the basis of the American Indie-Rock scene.
BRING IT ON!
